Intentional Communication
نویسنده
چکیده
Intentional communication is perceptually based and about attentional objects. Three attention mechanisms are distinguished: scanning, attention attraction, and attention-focusing. Attention-focusing directs the subject towards attentional objects. It prepares for categorising input according to perceptual concepts. Attention-focusing is goal governed (controlled by stimulus) or goal intended (under the control of the subject). Attentional objects are defined instrumentally and non-conceptually, as emerging in the interaction between subjects and environment. Joint attention allows for focusing on the same attentional object simultaneously (mutual object focused attention), provided that the subjects have focused on each other beforehand (subjectsubject attention). It results in intentional communication if subjects attend to each other as (i) capable of attending, and (ii) attending in a goal intended way. (ii) ensures that attention is guided by attentional states and not by the environment. Intentional communication is fundamentally imperative and adapted to action. Protodeclarative expressions are a special case of protoimperatives.

Important Distinctions in Measuring Maternal Responses to Communication in Prelinguistic Children with Disabilities
Two research hypotheses were tested in the research reported here: The first was that nonlinguistic maternal responses to intentional child communication, but not to preintentional communication, will predict later intentional communication but not later language development. The second hypothesis was that linguistic mapping of intentional communication, but not of preintentional communication,...

Communication is a process of exchanging information via a common system. There are many natural ways in which individuals may communicate. Besides linguistic communication, which is at the core of human communication, humans communicate using arm gestures, body postures, facial expressions, eye contact, and head and body movements. Communication may be intentional and nonintentional. In both c...
متن کاملIntentional Communication: Computationally Easy or Difficult?
Human intentional communication is marked by its flexibility and context sensitivity. Hypothesized brain mechanisms can provide convincing and complete explanations of the human capacity for intentional communication only insofar as they can match the computational power required for displaying that capacity. It is thus of importance for cognitive neuroscience to know how computationally comple...
متن کاملFacilitating prelinguistic communication skills in young children with developmental delay. II: Systematic replication and extension.
Four children with mental retardation were studied in the context of a multiple baseline across subjects design. Staff members used a modified version of the milieu teaching method to facilitate intentional requesting. The results replicated the finding that a modified version of milieu teaching was effective in facilitating the use of intentional requesting by children with developmental delay...

متن کاملPre-Symbolic and Symbolic Communication Behaviors of Typically Developing Children (1.6 Years) in Dyadic Communication Context Using Adapted Communication Complexity Scale
-Communication complexity scale (CCS)Brady et al., 2012 [1]was developed to assess the communication of individuals with intellectual disabilities and developmental disabilities who are mostly presymbolic communicators in the context of examiner-child scripted interaction. In the present study, CCS was adapted to assess communication oftwo typically developing children of 1.6 years age in unscr...
